Renowned for its unspoilt beaches, incredible scenery and rich history, the Purbeck Line travels through some of Dorset’s most picturesque landscapes.

History & heritage

Dorchester is pack full of rich and diverse history which can be explored in the Dorset Museum & Art Gallery. Discover the stories of local people spanning over 500,000 years of history from the Palaeolithic to the present day and watch as 250 million years of natural history comes alive with the Natural Dorset exhibition.

Housed in the gatehouse once used by the Doresetshire Regiment, visitors are now invitied to explore the Keep Military Museum, providing a fascinating insight into the miltary history of the area.

Wareham is the nearest station to connect with Swanage Heritage Railway. Travelling on vintage diesel locomotives, this beautiful routes delivers you to the seaside resort of Swanage.

There’s plenty to explore along the Purbeck Line, the hardest part will be deciding where to go first.
