From the heart of the Cathedral city of Exeter take a trip along the Exe Estuary. It’s a great journey for birdwatchers, and in Exmouth why not hit the beach before enjoying a seaside favourite of fish and chips?

Get closer to nature as you explore the Exe Estuary Trail. This cycle trail takes you around the Exe Estuary from Dawlish to Exmouth, running adjacent to the railway line and passing through quaint villages along the way. RSPB reserves near Topsham and Dawlish Warren provide great opportunities to wildlife watch. The route is almost entirely traffic-free and level.

While away a few hours on the sandy beach of Exmouth. This 2-mile stretch has been popular with holidaymakers since the 18th century and it’s not hard to see why. Or explore further as Exmouth provides an ideal gateway to adventures along the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

Take a scenic walk from the railway with free maps and directions and explore the best of Devon on foot.
