The Sunshine Coast line stretches from historic Colchester to the seaside resort of Clacton-on-Sea, providing picturesque views of Essex countryside.

The Sunshine Coast line starts in Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town with over 2,000 years of fascinating history to be explored.
Further along the line is Wivenhoe, follow the small winding streets of the old village and you’ll soon come across the picturesque fishing quayside.
Outdoors & nature
Explore some of the finest countryside walks in Essex as you leave the train at Alresford or continue to Great Bentley where the quaint village boasts the largest village green in the country. Choose to take the line to Walton on the Naze for a walk on the sandy beach or Clacton on Sea for a stroll along the Victorian pier.

Explore the Sunshine Coast Line on foot with these beautiful railway walks:
- Wivenhoe Station to Hythe Station Colchester
- Walton on the Naze to Frinton on Sea Beach walk – takes about 50 minutes along the promenade. Can use the Sunshine Coast Ranger ticket which allows passengers to hop on and off at multiple stops along the route.
- Great Bentley village green walk – the largest village green in the UK.
- Walton on the Naze Naze Tower and nature reserve walk – 45 minutes walk from the station with amazing views across the estuary to Felixstowe and the principality of Sealand.
