Clitheroe Line

Manchester Victoria – Clitheroe via Bolton

On departing Manchester the line follows the Irwell Valley to Bolton and then climbs over the West Pennine Moors to reach Entwistle and the former cotton towns of Darwen and Blackburn. From Blackburn the line enters the Ribble Valley to reach Clitheroe where you’ll find excellent views towards Longridge Fell, the Yorkshire Dales and Pendle Hill.

Extend your journey by exploring the great outdoors. Entwistle, the gateway to the West Pennine Moors and Clitheroe, the gateway to the Ribble Valley and the Forest of Bowland are perfect starting points, just don’t forget your walking boots!

Explore further afield with the return of DalesRail, a rail service operating every Sunday in summer 2021 linking Cumbria, Lancashire and North Yorkshire. With this service you can catch the train at Clitheroe and explore the stunning landscapes of Settle, Ribblehead and up to Carlisle, ideal for walkers. Look out for organised walking events throughout the summer run by Lancashire Rail Ramblers. Find out more.
