History & heritage

Lincolnshire is known for it’s military links with the Royal Air Force (RAF), with the area being a hub for engineering and aviation activity throughout World War I and II. Many of these RAF centres now open their doors to visitors wanting to learn more about aviation, the war efforts and the stories of the men and women who lived and worked nearby. Visit the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre, Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre or Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum and step back in time as you explore aviation by those who know it best.

A short stroll from Wainfleet station you’ll reach Batemans Brewery & Visitor Centre. Here you can explore this wonderful brewery located in an 18th century windmill with specialist tours teaching the traditional and modern brewing methods.

Adjacent to Heckington station site an amazing 8 sailed windmill, Heckington Mill. The mill is the only remaining 8 sailed mill in the world and the site now boasts a visitor centre, shop, cafe and brewery.
