Bletchley – Bedford

The picturesque Marston Vale Line is ideal to explore as a break from the capital. Take the short 40 minute journey by train from London St Pancras and you’ll soon be at Bedford, the start of this beautiful route.

History & heritage

Discover the fascinating life and works of John Bunyan, an English writer, at the John Bunyan Museum in Bedford, learn more about Bunyan’s Bedford here. Nearby you can visit The Higgins Bedford that unites three cultural venues in one site, Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, Bedford Museum and Bedford Gallery. The buildings themselves date back 200 years and have their own rich histroy of occupation and use. Today they are home to interesting exhibitions, events and activities that showcase the history and heritage of the local area while showcasing impressive works from local and renowned artists.

Also in Bedford your able to experience the Panacea Museum, where you can explore the story of the Panacea Society, a remarkable religious community formed in the early 20th century.

Further along the line you’ll reach Ridgmont, home of the charming Ridgmont Station Heritage Centre. Enjoy afternoon tea in the original Ladies Waiting Room, a guided visit of the Victorian Booking Office andbuy a souvenir in the Gift Shop.

Outdoors & nature

Along the line, leave the train at Millbrook, serving as a gateway to the spectacular Millennium Country Park at the heart of the Forest of Marston Vale. Enjoy a pleasant and peaceful walk or cycle ride on surfaced pathways to reach the Forest Centre. Here you can find a large adventure playground, wetland reserve and 5 miles of traffic free cycle paths and walks throughout the Millenium Country Park.
